💭 FCL Weekly Thought: 07/11/25

College coach perspective on recruiting. Top BIC performers. Finish strong! 🤝

Hey everyone,

We’re in the thick of summer recruiting, and it’s a grind for players, parents, and coaches. This week’s thought is a reminder to zoom out and consider the college coach’s perspective. It doesn’t make the process less stressful, but it might help you reframe how you approach the next few weeks.

Plus, we’ve got standout writeups from two BIC events and a new breakdown from Zach Carey on Sean Kirwan’s offense.

Let’s get into it. Happy Friday ☕️,
Matt & Deemer

💭 WEEKLY THOUGHT
🔄 College Coaches Perspective

As we have highlighted many times this summer, there is no doubt that this can be an extremely stressful time for players and parents. We are just under two months away from September 1st, and there is uncertainty for everyone. One thing we wanted to highlight this week is that this is also an extremely stressful and challenging time for college coaches

College Coach Schedules

To give a little insight on college coaches schedule and calendar, they spend September and October coaching fall ball and getting acclimated with their new roster. They also spend this time working to commit players and get their class together. Once November hits, they will start to look ahead towards the next years class, with December largely spent on planning for the spring season and enjoying some downtime and holidays. Once January 1 hits, coaches full attention shifts to their current team and the season ahead. This is their number one priority. The majority of teams finish season at the end of April or early May. In late May, the recruiting process begins. June, July and some of August are spent on the field evaluating talent and gathering a list of prospective student-athletes.

From an outsiders perspective, it seems like college coaches sit in a great seat for the recruiting process. For the most part, they do, but we think it’s good to acknowledge what their job looks like during this time and see things from their perspective. Just like you, college coaches are spending the majority of the summer on the road traveling to tournaments and staying in hotels. They are trying to watch as much lacrosse as they can and can get an honest evaluation of players that they want to select to be a part of their program.

College Coach Lists & Communication

We all ask the same questions during the summer - is this coach interested in me? Does this school want me at their prospect day? Where am I on their list? These are all valid questions, but it can be helpful to reset and remember that these coaches are also asking themselves similar questions - who is on our list? Who do we want to see more of? What event should we spend more time on? What are our academic requirements for this class?

It’s helpful to remember that college coaches themselves do not have all the answers right now. Their lists change as the summer goes. The recruiting process is ever evolving and takes time. If a coach has not signaled to your club director that they are interested in you, that does not mean there is no chance for you. Similarly, if a coach has expressed interest, it does not mean an offer is coming September 1st. The whole process is a moving target.

Control What You Can Control

As always, control what you can control. Play your hardest every chance you get and don’t worry about the outside noise. Hang in there. There is still a lot left to play this summer, so make it count!

Best,
Coach Class and Coach Dunn

🔥 RECRUITING COVERAGE

In this week’s recruiting section, we are highlighting some rising juniors who are sure to be on the top of a lot of college coaches boards come September 1st!

Check out the full BIC Women’s 2027 Standouts from June 18-19.

Giana Bigelow | 2027 | Attack (Quarterback) | Valor Christian | Team 180

Giana was a leader on her team. Very fast and shifty. She made plays, set up her teammates well, and showed she was able to draw two and pass it off. Created numerous scoring chances for her teammates. She had ton of hustle plays that stuck out and is good off the draw. She scored in many different ways. Plays with her head up and had many different moves she could go to. Giana made her presence felt every game at BIC.

Kayla Cellucci | 2027 | Defense (Spark) | Villa Maria Academy | NXT

Like her older brother Chase, who starts at UNC, Kayla is a lockdown 1v1 defender. She showcased advanced decision-making in regards to when to press out or when to double team, and had a bunch of CTs as a result. Her footwork and technique are super polished. Kayla is super present in the clear and handles the ball well, even scoring a goal as a defender. Kayla projects as a top D1 player with her athleticism, size and high IQ.

Cecilia Evans | 2027 | Midfield (Gritty Grinder) | Dexter Southfield | Laxachusetts

Evans has instincts and compete you cannot teach. She's fast, athletic, and has great size. True 2 way mid, she was all over the field in a good way. She constantly turns heads by making different plays. Gritty is the right word for Cecilia - she's strong on the draw, and came up with what felt like every GB. She tracked down a player all the way across the field, and played her angles to turn her back. She battles all over the field. She draws comparisons to recent BIC Standout Maria Bragg (2026, Florida). Evans will be fun to watch going forward.
