💭 WEEKLY THOUGHT
🏆 Summer Recruiting
With the high school lacrosse season coming to a close, we now turn the page to summer recruiting. This is both an exciting and stressful time. June and July will be packed with club tournaments, individual showcases and prospect days. Most players and families will spend just as much time in hotels as they will their own home. As we head into summer, here are four things to keep in mind.
#1 This is what you have been waiting for!
While this time of year can certainly be stressful and intense, this is what you have been training for. As college coaches begin lining your sidelines, remember to have a sense of gratitude as you finally have the opportunity to show every school and coach the work that you have been putting in your whole life to get to this point!
#2 No regrets.
When you get in the car or on the plane to head back home from each tournament, showcase, or prospect day, have no regrets. You will not play your best in every game - there will be times when you don’t score, have no points, get beat on defense or let in more goals than you think you should have. Don’t let your performance be so tied to stats as much as it’s tied to your energy, hustle, attention to detail, unselfishness and love for the game. Play every game as if it is the most important one.
#3 Believe in yourself.
When it comes to the recruiting process, coaches are often splitting hairs on who they take. One thought to keep in mind is - you have to believe in yourself before any coach can believe in you. There will be challenging times this summer, but be sure to hit the reset button, find your confidence and play to the best of your ability.
#4 Someone is always watching.
Whether your dream school coach is on the sidelines or not, someone is always watching. The lacrosse world is extremely small and connected, and you don’t know who knows who. Always be sure to put your best foot forward, both on and off the field.
Best of luck this summer!
Best,

🤔 PARENT PERSPECTIVE Q&A
Question
I know the recruiting process doesn't really start happening until fall of sophomore year, but it seems like a lot of showcase events keep having the same players back each year. I have a 29 who I’ve held off on applying for the showcases, but now I'm wondering if I have put her behind the 8 ball by not "getting in" early?
Answer
You're not behind. For most Division I programs, serious evaluations for the '29 class won’t really begin until fall of sophomore year. That’s when some coaches start to prioritize building their list. Everything before that is more about development and familiarity with certain events and coaches than true recruiting.
That said, you’re not wrong. Some showcase events do have players return each year. It’s not because recruiting starts earlier, but because those events often value consistency and relationships. Players they know and trust get invited back, but they will often take many new players as well that emerge on their school and club teams.
The truth is, no college coach is locking in decisions about 2029s right now. They care far more about whether a player is developing, competing, and projecting in the right direction than whether they got into a certain showcase at 14 years old. Showcases can be useful when timed right, but they don’t define your daughter’s trajectory. If you are going to play in showcases at this age, you want to make sure there is a good development piece to the event and not just a “show up and play” type of deal.
You haven’t missed the window. Every player has a different journey, some will attend many events over the next few years and some may only attend very few. If she keeps improving and you start targeting the right events at the right time, she’ll be exactly where she needs to be.
